Wheel-Throwing with My Mum

Today, I’d love to share a bit about my family trip to Jingdezhen, China – the world-famous ‘ceramic capital’. As you know, ceramics are my passion, so my parents and husband kindly humoured me with a visit to its historic kilns, museums, and workshops. I came away utterly inspired.
Until now, I’d rarely worked with porcelain, always preferring the earthy textures of stoneware and earthenware. But watching the masters there – and joining a workshop myself – has made me eager to give it a proper try.
This video shows my mum and me attempting wheel-throwing with porcelain (her first go, and rather good, I’d say!). There’s something special about sharing a creative moment with family – messy hands and all.
Has anyone else tried dragging family into your creative obsessions? Do share! 🏺
